The ÖAV climbing garden offers the best climbing conditions for beginners and families. Advanced climbers get their money’s worth in the Dschungelbuch climbing garden with around 170 routes.
The ÖAV climbing garden: Climbing for families and beginners
In the far west of Innsbruck, just before Zirl, is the ÖAV climbing garden. Here you can perfectly learn or improve your rock climbing skills. More difficult routes also provide challenges here.
After an idyllic approach of 5 to 10 minutes you reach the first climbing rock.
This lower rock offers three routes in the right part of the Schleicherplatte. Equipped with six carabiners, the kids and beginners can make their first attempts at lead climbing.
At the end of the routes is NOT a carabiner, but a RING. Here you can practice using the sling, but you don’t have to, because the last express is accessible via a climb.
If you follow the path to the right, you will reach the main sector with its left or right part in five minutes. There are 47 routes between 3a and 7b. Of these, 25 routes are 1st pitch and 22 routes are 2nd pitch. Well structured pleasure tours for beginners and children can be discovered! New carabiners after the 1st pitch make it possible to climb the routes without having to handle the sling.
At the foot of the rock you can hang out perfectly and recover from your efforts in the shade. Attention: The wall faces south! In summer, climb either early or late afternoon, but it is better to prefer cooler days. Do not forget sunscreen!
On the way to the ÖAV climbing garden, you pass a sign with the signpost “Schleicherplatte”. If you follow this to the left, you will reach seven routes with a height of about 15 meters. Challenging slab climbing between 6a+ and 6c are characteristic of this sector.
