At the moment the summer shows its best side and we spend every free minute outside. But unfortunately the sun is not always shining in Innsbruck and we will probably not be spared the one or other rainy day. If you have children, you know that bad weather can make your head spin. At some point all the books are read and spending the whole day in front of the TV is not really fun.
I have summarized our favorite places for rainy weather and hope you like them as much as we do

Audioversum

Innsbruck has a lot to offer in terms of museums. The Tyrolean museums (the Ferdinandeum, the Volkskunstmuseum, the Hofkirche, the Zeughaus and the Tirol Panorama with the Kaiserjägermuseum) are a must for every visitor to Innsbruck and absolutely recommendable, thanks to the great children’s program also for families. However, my son is only 19 months old and still too young for this.

But there is one museum where even the very young ones can have a lot of fun: the Audioversum. As the name suggests, everything here revolves around hearing and it is possible to interact, marvel and try things out. For example, you can measure and compare the volume of your voice in decibels. How loud does my son scream? Like a frog, a wolf, a howler monkey or as loud as an elephant? I was not surprised by the result.

Here, sounds are represented as objects – and in their acoustic size.

You can try things out to your heart’s content

There are currently two special exhibitions: Fascination of Colour (until 07.01.2018) and Adventure Earth (until 29.04.2018). Here, too, the little ones learn through play and let themselves be carried away into another world.

Shopping

It’s not for nothing that Kaufhaus Tyrol was named Europe’s most beautiful and best shopping centre in 2011 and won the ICSC European Conference award. The modern design of the building fits perfectly into the traditional Maria-Theresien-Strasse and everyone is guaranteed to find what they are looking for in the over 50 shops.

Well, that’s all well and good, some of you might think, but my children are neither interested in design nor in shopping. Neither is my son – but he’s all the more interested in WIKI-Kinderwelt. Here you can find everything a child’s heart desires: toys for every age and every taste, a climbing castle, a ball bath, a cosy corner for reading books and much much more.

Bad weather is cuddly weather

Children under the age of 3 are only allowed in when accompanied by an adult – children over the age of 3 are looked after by a competent specialist while you yourself take a leisurely stroll through the department store. Afterwards, you can pick up your exhausted children and go for a cup of cocoa together.

JOY – the children’s paradise

The children’s paradise Joy is also located in a shopping centre, but not directly in Innsbruck, but in the CYTA in Völs.
JOY is a huge indoor playground where we have spent many a rainy Sunday afternoon. Thanks to the spinning tower, giant soft play area, roller slide, trampolines, bouncy castles, go-karts,… you won’t get bored easily. The little ones have their own play area. The café/restaurant is the perfect place to relax and recharge your batteries.

Splashing, sliding and swimming with fun factor

The classic in bad weather is and remains the indoor swimming pool. Our favourites are the indoor pool Olympic Village and the adventure pool in Seefeld.
O-Village:
Thanks to two giant slides, a baby pool with jungle slide and year-round outdoor pool, you won’t get bored easily.
Seefeld:
A 640 m² bathing area offers plenty of space for fun and games. Especially interesting for children are the children’s area with children’s and baby pool, the slide paradise with various slides and the heated outdoor pool.

The baker Ruetz in Kematen

We don’t just come here for breakfast to Bäcker Ruetz, but also on rainy afternoons, or when we’re just not quite sure if the weather will hold. Because there is a huge playground here where you can really let off steam. But if it does rain, you’ll be dry in no time and can warm up with a hot cup of tea and a biscuit. Afterwards, the little ones can simply continue playing in the children’s area.

Kids Café in Thaur

Similar to the Joy in Völs, the Kids Café is an indoor playground. Here the little ones can let off steam even when it’s raining, while the adults drink their coffee in comfort and still have a good view of everything.

I think rainy days can be endured quite well in Innsbruck. There is enough to discover and to do. With this in mind, I wish everyone a great time, whether it’s raining or shining!
